Responsive Websites

Responsive websites are a boon for anyone who has ever had trouble viewing a web page in full screen mode on the computer or laptop. They make it possible to view web pages on various portable devices like cell phones, iPads, and even on “laptops” or netbooks. Responsive web design is a way to website design that makes each web page render properly on different size and screen resolutions. Recent research also considers viewer distance as a factor in the viewing pattern of RWD as an independent extension of RWD itself.

There are three main components to Responsive Websites: a Home page, a Navigation bar, and a Search box. The home page is the most important of these because it is the web page that a user will initially see when they access your site. The navigation bar on the other hand contains the features that you are trying to offer your clients through your website and typically includes a column for links, a column for search boxes, and a column for links to other pages in your site. The search box allows the user to look for specific items that are related to the topic of your website.

The advantages of Responsive Websites have been debated for years. In recent years many new developments and technologies in the Internet community have arisen which are making Responsive Websites easier and more effective than ever before. One of these new developments is Extensible Markup Language (XML) and one of its many ways of rendering a web page is via RWD or “RRD”. XML is primarily designed for representing structured data whereas RWD is designed for giving the user experience regardless of the screen size of the device where the web page is being viewed on.

So, why is it so important to create responsive websites? The answer is very simple; responsive websites make it possible to provide a better browsing experience to every device that has an internet connection. Even if the person visiting your website does not have a larger screen such as a laptop computer or a smart phone, they will be able to access your content. This is one of the major advantages of responsive websites.

A common problem with websites designed for older versions of browsers is that they look broken on those devices because the layout was not changed to take into account the different screen sizes of those devices. Even today, many mobile devices have smaller screens and this makes creating responsive websites difficult. The solutions to this problem are to use flexible images and media queries in the head section of your CSS. Flexible images are those that can be scaled to fit any size without stretching the image like a jigsaw. Media queries are additional tags that your computer language can identify how to use to change the size of the media on certain types of device.

In addition to using flexible images and media queries you must also employ other techniques that allow cross browser compatibility. One of these techniques is to create optimized images and then configure them as responsive web layouts. These optimized images should have the same size throughout the site, as this will prevent breaks when navigating from one page to another. Another important thing to remember is to create as few breakpoints as possible. The fewer breakpoints you have the faster your site will load. Although you will lose some initial design space, the end result will be a site that loads faster.

When using media queries in your CSS you should keep in mind that each media query will add a new size limit to the image you will be using, so it is usually best to stick to one size. It is also important to keep in mind that images that are used as breakpoints should be located in the head section of your CSS file. This way they will be included during all sizes of screen and avoided making cross browser incompatibility a major issue.
